wouldn’t it be impossible to unmix any pigment color combo? And wtf does that sort of metaphor even mean?
It’s an example of a situation where it’s easier to start fresh than undo past actions, which by your point you show you understand.
I don’t think it’s acceptable to call the planet an unfixable mess.
Let’s differentiate between OUR planet, and the planet depicted in the movie. Are you saying that there are no ways in which a fictional future earth is unsalvageable?
Do you also rally against movies set in, for example, a dystopian cyberpunk setting due to not liking the scene it was set in?
There is no real response because we’re talking about a fictional future, with unknown ailments, established by maybe 20 minutes of film as a backdrop. They wanted to tell a story titled “interstellar”, not “terrestrial”.
Given all those unknowns, it stands that there are times when starting fresh is easier than undoing. Trying to unmix brown pigments comes to mind.
You asked:
If earth is in a climate apocalypse, and we have extremely advanced technology that lets us bring life to far out planets, then why are we leaving earth? Can’t those same technologies be applied to saving the earth people?
This is a potential answer, given the lack of established truths in this fictional universe.
It can be easier to start with a fresh slate than it is to salvage a mess.
9mm it is.
This is the same logic as “if we stop testing, the disease goes away”
Which conservatives also spearheaded during covid, so we’re par for the course.
The self hosted community is probably the worst place you could ask about something while ruling out “privacy and tinkering”. Those words might as well be the motto here.
That is coincidentally exactly what meta is arguing in their lawsuit.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
“so are you an old testament guy or a new testament guy?”
“NO PUPPET NO PUPPET YOU’RE THE PUPPET”
What’s your interest rate? That plays a huge factor in what your monthly payments are.
I wouldn’t expect folks working on Linux to be discouraged by the sweat equity of something as small as running the installer for an OS. I definitely read “just work” to mean having all components supported by the OS, regular updates available, etc.
You are absolutely right.
They try to spin it as “trying to get around no personal electronics allowed in the SCIF”, but what if it’s a low-side DoD machine?
The biggest issue I see is if signal isn’t vetted to run on DoD computers, and quite frankly that’s a slap on the wrist at most.
For reference, you can do as much damage as you could from signal by logging into Gmail.
Unfortunately if you take alternatives out of the running you’re kind of just left with impotent rage against one of the biggest companies in the world and their shareholders.
Why would Microsoft ever care about some mildly upset users on Lemmy when they know said users are locked into their product for life?
Louis Rossman, a strong advocate for the right to self-repair, has an extensive, bottom to top guide on self hosting your own services. It starts from introducing what a modem is and what role it plays, and it ends with an entirely self hosted cloud. It comes in article as well as 13 hour video form. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to get started self hosting - it doesn’t just introduce software you should learn, but it also shows you how to configure it.
So you know how your phone runs android or iOS? Think of windows as one, and Linux as the other if they could both run on the same hardware.
