GPTs also don’t make images. That’s not what Transformers do, and GPT means Generative Pre-trained Transformer. It’s diffusion models and variational autoencoders that make images.

UEFI won’t boot from MBR drives unless it’s in BIOS compatibility mode. What format the drive is in isn’t determined by a firmware setting, though it can affect the boot process. I don’t think you actually understand what you are talking about here. The easiest way to install OSes both Windows and Linux is by wiping the drive, which would have solved this issue. Dual boot on single drive configurations normally have issues and will always be more complicated. It’s better to use two drives where possible in most cases. I suggest you read up on BIOS vs UEFI and how partition tables work if you want to do a complex setup like that.
Mint is known for having older kernels and therefore not supporting the latest hardware. They have a different edition for newer computers called Linux Mint Edge edition. Something Arch derived like CachyOS or another distro using recent kernels will always have the best support for bleeding edge hardware. The CachyOS installer is also pretty friendly, though maybe not as much as Mint.
This isn’t true. Try Linux Mint or Ubuntu, their installers are much better. Those installers used by Fedora, RedHat, and even SUSE can be a bit weird.
They specifically say unbloated Windows as well which while it’s not as difficult as they make out is still somewhat annoying.
I’ve recently had a Windows installer fail to see my NVMe drives until I changed some random UEFI setting because it was missing a driver. Linux could see it just fine, as could Hirens boot.

My views are based on data from my own country. If that situation is that bad in Los Estados Unidos then leave. In my country the average lecturer salary is a bit over £40k per year which is above the average UK salary for all age groups. That again is for lecturers which are not the same as professors.
You still haven’t said what their salary actually is, just vaguely talked about hourly rates. Shouldn’t most lectures be full time employees? Are you saying most lectures aren’t full time in your country?

I am telling you that even people further down in the hierarchy make good money. Either your academics are lying to you (which wouldn’t suprise me people are fucking greedy) or something has gone very wrong in your country. If we are talking about American it’s probably both of those things.

The only people not making good money are the PhD students who also teach. Even then most of us I think get more money than the undergraduates.
Even I as a student get something like £19,000 a year plus £40 per hour teaching rate for any classes I teach.
Either these people are manipulating you or there is something very wrong with academia in your country. Luckily moving countries is quite easy for academics as many Universities will hire foreign staff and there are often immigration laws in place for these kinds of people.
In what world or country are professors not making enough to afford somewhere to live? In my country professors make good money despite the fact that tenure doesn’t really exist here. It’s one of the highest ranks you can have in academia above lecturer, senior lecturer, and reader.

LLMs have legitimate uses today even if they are currently somewhat limited. In the future they will have more legitimate and illegitimate uses. The capabilities of current LLMs are often oversold though, which leads to a lot of this resentment.
Edit: also LLMs very much are AI (specifically ANI) and ML. It’s literally a form of deep learning. It’s not AGI, but nobody with half a brain ever claimed it was.
The problem is that some people like me won’t get that reference and instead think AIs are universally bad. A lot of people already think this way, and it’s hard to know who believes what.
AI at this stage is just a tool. This might change one day, but today is not that day. Blame the user, not the tool.
AI and ML was being used to assist in scientific research long before ChatGPT or StableDiffusion hit the mainstream news cycle. AIs can be used to predict all sorts of outcomes, including ones relevant to climate, weather, even medical treatment. The University I work for even have a funded PhD program looking at using AI algorithms to detect cancer better, I found out because one of my friends is applying for it.
The research I am doing with AI is not quite as important as that, but it could shape the future of both cyber security and education, as I am looking at using for teaching cyber security students about ethical hacking and security. Do people also use LLMs to hack businesses or government organisations and cause mayhem? Quite probably, and they definitely will in the future. That doesn’t mean that the tool itself is bad, just that some people will inevitably abuse it.
Not all of this stuff is run by private businesses either. A lot of work is done by open source devs working on improving publicly available AI and ML models in their spare time. Likewise some of this stuff is publicly funded through universities like mine. There are people way better than me out there using AIs for all sorts of good things including stopping hackers, curing patients, teaching the next generation, or monitoring climate change. Some of them have been doing it for years.
HDR is awesome if you have the right hardware. I’ve never seen a movie look so good. Someone needs to get HDR working.
To me it looks like they used a bad camera that’s too soft. That’s all. AI images are often sharper and better looking than this if done using a good enough model and techniques.
