  • I don’t get Shorts. I can’t watch them on my PlayStation, if I click on one on the phone app it’ll disconnect the PlayStation and force me to watch it on my phone.

If you try to upload a video that is less than a minute long, it forces you to do Shorts.

I also don’t get why opening up a community thread or something pauses the video I’m watching on the PlayStation.

I’ve also noticed lately that when I connect the phone app with the PlayStation, about 30% of the time, the video will play extremely slow without sound. I have to close and reboot the YouTube app on the PlayStation to watch anything afterwards.

  • I mean, agreed, but at least having the public option would drive down some prices. Our health care system is a failure even by the standards of liberal capitalism.

Rolled my ankle a few weeks ago - probably fractured it, hobbled around and now I can walk on it without hurting. No medical care - I’m saving up $300 for my blood work for my routine check up and figured that even the Urgent Care would do nothing and charge me $100 for it.

  • The thing is - they use these disasters to punish communities they don’t like.

In Oklahoma - I am a (non medical) volunteer for the Medical Reserve Corps. There were calls when small towns like Stroud were hit in 2023 - there was no mobilization for Tulsa in 2023. Both our governor and our lieutenant governor were completely out of the picture, no one even knew who was in charge to even declare a state of emergency. Places in Tulsa were without running water or electricity for weeks after. No one cared - Tulsa is mostly Black and votes Blue.

We are looking at severe weather in Oklahoma tonight. I guarantee, if it takes out a small town like fucking Tishimongo or something - a place that voted for our governor - they’ll get help. If it’s Tulsa - lol.

  • Gardner’s “multiple intelligences” model is a nicer way to think about intelligence, but it’s not really quantifiable in the same way. (How would you measure how “ecologically” intelligent someone is?)

It’s very appealing to think that we have some sort of “int” stat like a Dungeons and Dragons character, but I don’t think it’s really that valuable. If the IQ/the “g factor” measures anything, it’s probably something about being able to quickly process visual information. I have a relatively high IQ and think that’s the trait I have that is being measured (from the testing they did in the teen torture facility I spent my adolescence in - my high IQ meant that I was a dangerous, manipulative liar of course.)

If you have two and a half hours to spare, I think this Shaun video is a masterwork of science communication.

  • Which let’s be real - the only reason there was opposition to the ACA was because Obama did it. It was basically RomneyCare. Most people (on the right) opposed to the ACA didn’t actually know why they didn’t like it - it was done by that uppity guy who wore a mustard suit.

My little brother has a genetic disorder - already had multiple, intensive surgeries by his tenth birthday. He would have capped out his lifetime insurance payouts around the time the ACA passed. He would probably not be able to get any form of insurance now because of his preexisting conditions, if not for the ACA.

The ACA’s problem was that it did not have a public option. We aren’t operating under a free market - insurance companies are colluding with each other and hospitals. There is no actual competition. Even if universal healthcare wasn’t a moral imperative (how the fuck do you keep up your insurance when you’re sick? when the company you work for fires you because you miss too much work?), it’s also not even being run by the rules of the “free market.”

  • It’s really obnoxious on tumblr.

Someone says something factually incorrect (usually about trans people, usually a “detrans lesbian” who is most certainly a 21 year old cis man alternating between /pol/ and tumblr). Just straight up lies. You call them out, they block you, and then continue posting lies.

I get blocking as a tool for mental health, avoiding harassment, keeping one’s sanity - but it’s problematic when blocks are used to hide lies.

  • You should. Extremely relaxing hobby. I sit down in front of the TV watching Star Wars, i mindlessly move my hands around, and then hours later I have a dishcloth.

It’s a great hobby because it’s super accessible and cheap. Go to Walmart, get a $2 thing of cotton yarn, $1ish on some size 8 needles, zone out watching TV, and then you have something you can clean your house with. More time means great blankets. More effort and time, and then you get something nice to wear.
