I’m confused and feel like this title is misleading:
The Novavax vaccine was previously only allowed to be used in emergencies. Meanwhile, the FDA gave full approval to vaccines by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna in 2022 under the Biden administration. Both companies are producing updated versions of their vaccines for the fall.
It seems to only be for the Novavax vaccine, and it was already restricted, but this article doesn’t say why. Don’t get me wrong, RFK is a fool, but it doesn’t look like he’s keeping people from getting the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines, and the one he is restricting was already restricted for undefined reasons.
All COVID vaccines were first released under Emergency Use Authorizations. But the “emergency” was COVID itself.
Moderna and Pfizer were the first, and have since been fully approved by going through the appropriate FDA process and undergoing clinical testing on an unprecedented scale.
Those mRNA vaccines could be rapidly developed because of the revolutionary technology involved. Novavax - a “traditional” vaccine - was first EUA’d in October 2022. It came much later and still needed to go through the same approval process, but its access wasn’t restricted except to under 18s. Adults over the age of 18 could get Novovax as a standalone, or as a booster in cases where their first vaccine was not available or appropriate.
Novavax has just completed the FDA approval process and received a different authorization. They have somehow passed the review, but in doing so, it’s access has now been restricted.
Why? Is it because of efficacy, or safety? The EUA was originally granted because it passed review of its safety and efficacy, but the more extensive approval process would have more clinical trial data to verify both.
Interestingly enough, the FDA hasn’t stated why the vaccine received such a bizarre approval. No announcement of what, exactly is the reasoning why under 65’s would not be allowed to receive it. Is it too risky? That’d be odd, considering senior citizens can get it. Is it not proven to work? That’d also be strange, because senior citizens can get it, and their immune systems are worse.
Who knows? With an anti-vax asshole as head of the DOH, who can say for sure?
Well, fun fact - this means there is no traditional vaccine that is fully authorized for normal adult use.
The mRNA vaccines bear a lot of unfounded controversy. Of the unvaccinated, many Americans who weren’t entirely anti-vax but were scared of the brand new technology, wanted traditional vaccines. Many of the unvaccinated were scared of the “emergency” in emergency use authorization, and wanted to see long-term proof that they were safe.
Now, underneath the authority of a well-known anti-vaccine madman and his treasonous, self-serving felon of a boss, that option never came to fruition.
No “traditional” vaccine will be “traditionally” authorized, for the kind of “traditional” people who might just be scared of new things, and wanted to “wait and see.” The mRNA vaccines were a modern goddamn miracle and a shining achievement of human ingenuity, but I get it. People are scared, panicky animals, and they’ll make all sorts of rationalizations.
Those people could still benefit from being vaccinated, and now they won’t have that “safe” option.
Under RFK Jr., I can only imagine why.
Thanks, your explanation really fills in the gaps that the article didn’t address.
I feel like if it was easy for him to get rid of the existing ones, he probably would…
Tho he got his kids vaxed and refused to answer if he’d do it again so there’s some chance he’s just being a disingenuous prick and fucking over millions for personal gain… wouldn’t put that past a single “conservative”
(Wild how in the wider world conservation means protecting things that exist, while American conservatism actively seeks to destroy everything that has existed for decades… wild…)
His kids are all in the 20s-30s. They very well could have insisted on getting vaccinated themselves.
I don’t trust that red faced bastard or his brain worm puppeteer one bit.
RFK Jr. is a tumor festering in the US government. If you encountered a character as comically evil and ugly as this thing in a tv show, you’d make fun of the terrible writing. He is beyond parody, and doesn’t deserve to be engaged intellectually. He only deserves ridicule, parody, and if needed, a level of violence commensurate with the danger he and his demented policies pose to the general public.
more like a mass of worms for brains.
Let’s be real. Brian Whurm is the one limiting the vaccine.
They call him Doctor Worm
