Oh I hope this is true. I’m no fan of the Iranian government, but for the safety of their people and stability in the region, they should have nukes.

I’m pretty far left of Harris ideologically and never really liked her or thought she was worthy of these powerful offices. I also never really expected that much from her. That being said, I was passionate about dropping Biden and supporting her campaign even at that late hour, given the immense implications of electing trump for a second term. I donated money, and rallied friends and family to get on board. Then she did that DNC speech and talked about the ‘strongest military’ yadda yadda yadda. All of that energy and enthusiasm instantly evaporated. Nothing she or her campaign did after that motivated any active support from me and I had to really fight off the urge to not vote for her. I’m entirely done with the Democratic Party as run by the current regime. Unless that party reforms, the US is absolute toast.

I’m not an expert, but I’ve been observing investment behavior for a while now. I’ve watched VC behavior, and the behavior of retail investors on the stock market. I’ve watched analysts, owned some stocks and worked with investor relations for a technology company, and I’ve participated in an IPO. I’ve also listened to executives talk about ‘valuations’ behind the scenes. Over time, I’ve become convinced that there is no real “market” operating the way that most people who advocate for the benefits of market dynamics define it. It’s not allocating capital based on anything related to merit and it isn’t efficient in any real way. These valuations are largely arbitrary and manipulated by a choreography of marketing, fraud, and the continuously nurtured delusions that some parts of the market (like journalists and analysts) are objective, and that the majority of normal investors are actually able to make informed decisions. In short, I have no confidence that Neuralink is actually worth that much. But, in the end, almost no one cares and almost no one participating in these “markets” has any interest in the supposed benefits to society that markets bring. That is why society keeps getting worse the longer it is being shaped by the parlor game that is our economy.

I basically agree with you assessment of the US. You are either unaware of or ignoring the nuance I added to the description of my position elsewhere in the thread. But, whatever.

Nope. Not even close. Stop making stuff up asshole. As I have explained elsewhere on the thread, culpability is relative to role/actions and the severity of the organization’s crimes. I also explained that none of this violence is good. I’m not advocating for violence, I’m explaining that is inevitable when people and organizations perpetuate unbelievable violence, it’s going to blow back. I DONT WANT VIOLENCE. Point #1: Conflating the idea of ‘support for Israel’ with Judaism is antisemitic. While support for Israel is a thing that many Jewish people do, it is not a characteristic of being Jewish.

Point #2: Conflating violence against supporters of Israel as being necessarily violence against Jewish people depends on and reinforces point #1, and is therefore antisemitic.

Israel and many of its supporters want to make these conflations, because they want to frame any critique of the nation or its actions as a critique of Jewish people. Basically, they want to launder their crimes behind the goodwill that people have toward Jewish people. That is inaccurate, unfair, and dangerous. Unfortunately, it is infused in most of the media coverage of these murders, and being used to provide cover for Israel’s genocide and other crimes. I’m just calling it out when I encounter it.

Listen, I get it. It’s been a fundamental goal of that fascist state to conflate itself and Judaism holistically. It’s an attempt to somehow rationalize their dishonesty and brutality in the minds of well intentioned people. But, I would implore you to consider how unfair it is to Jewish people worldwide, to equate them with the unimaginable injustice and violence of one colonial nation.

Well, I don’t think it takes a super sleuth. I suspect he was stalking embassy staff, but let’s see what the investigation turns up. If he was just looking to murder Jewish people, why did he stop with these two? As far as I can tell from the reports, he was hanging out with others in the building for at least ten minutes after the murders, before the police arrived and he turned himself in. Also, the manifesto he provided specifically calls out the genocide and not “Jews”. Again, subject to change if different reporting comes out, but that’s what we have so far.

Violence begets violence and I think we are in agreement that it’s all bad. No reasonable person wants to see people getting gunned down in the street. I will challenge you on your assertions that they were random, and that they were gunned down for being “Jews”. We should interrogate the motivations and methods of this murderer, and if it turns out to be motivated by ethnic hatred, let’s call it out. So far the reporting has not shown that to my knowledge and there is a real danger in conflating hatred of the genocide with hatred of Jewish people.

Everything here indicates that they were intelligent, well informed and thoughtful. That makes their participation in this outrageously inhuman project that much more egregious.

I don’t think it’s a binary. Culpability is relative to one’s role and actions. The severity of state action is also a factor and as that severity increases, culpability expands. I want to be explicit, I hate violence and I wish this had not happened. That being said, such violence is an inevitable consequence of circumstances like what the State of Israel and the US are orchestrating. To quote JFK:

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

I hope that some day Elon comes to realize that he is utterly alone. No one, and I mean no one likes him. Everyone in his life that is friendly or supportive to his face, is putting on a show trying to get money from him or through their association with him. The assortment of adoring losers that identify with him, are merely chasing a mirage. They don’t adore him, only the fictional character that he’s constructed for PR purposes. He has to buy friends. He has to buy sex and offspring. He even has to buy the illusion of trivial accomplishments like progress in video games. He is peak loser, everyone can see it, and only a few are willing to lie to his face in exchange for maybe getting some cash. No amount of money, or fear driven bigotry, or trolling, or descendants will ever fill the gaping hole in that fetid husk he calls a soul. If there is any justice, he will be moping, riddled with regret about all this someday whenever he gets around to dying, alone in some dusty metaphorical corner.

I find myself contemplating this exact same sentiment at least once a day at this point. I just have to wonder how representative I am of the general populace here. Am I some weird outlier, or is this common? If this is common, I just don’t know how the country can sustain itself, or if it even should.
