- Available memory gets low
- Compress based on LRU rules
- Use swap
- OOM
So it’s more meant to be preventative afaik

Even with macos’s style of compressing inactive memory pages you’ll still have a hard cap that can be reached with the same technique (just with a larger uncompressed file)
I would encourage you to look up aggressive architecture. This is a well known and incredibly common tactic in the west and the US especially
