never stopped! but i do avoid doing it in public
the streak is half the work, the other half is actually having done the thing. if i just tap “ya i did that” (when i didn’t) because i want to keep the streak going it’s meaningless
that’s why i liked duolingo when it was a good leanguage learning helper app, it really did keep me thinking about my target langauge every day at least a little
that actually helped me remember that my target language exists, it was good for me to at least have a brush with some learning on the days that i just didn’t feel like doing much.
what was the final nail on the coffin for me was duolingo neutering the japanese course, they delayed introducing kanji so hard i was seeing the most basic basics like 母, 父, 語, even 何 in hiragana, which made the course deeply counterproductive as reading japanese in hiragana only, when you know the kanji already slows you down considerably. consider: ははははなをもっています vs 母は花を持っています, both mean “my mum has a flower” but one of them has a string of は you need to decipher the meaning of first before you can understand the sentence, the other’s meaning can be understood instantly
that is some advanced belief if the man himself revealed his secrets and yet you insist that no actually, i know better than you, it was magic!
what is happening? is ed sheeran the new beans?
“no think, do” works, but it’s hard to get into that mode. mindfulness sometimes helps but that’s a habit and habits are hard
unfortunately for the future me those are considered fully optional
i usually explain it like that:
on a good day when i make tea i only see 3 steps 1) boil water 2) take out a mug & tea 3) pour water over tea bag in the mug & enjoy!
on a bad day when i make tea i see 11 steps 1) pour water into kettle 2) turn the kettle on 3) find mug 4) take out mug 5) find tea 6) take out a tea bag 7) put tea bag in mug 8) make sure the water doesn’t reach boil [most teas need 90°C to brew well] 9) pour the water into the mug 10) don’t forget to take the mug with you 11) don’t forget to drink once it cools down
it’s the same action, and on all days i can easily do 3 actions, the problem begins when those 3 actions start looking like 11 actions
huh! interesting
no wonder Todd Howard keeps selling skyrim to people, i alone have a 1000h+ in that game!
could you elaborate? i don’t think current technology with more computational power than a phone can survive without fans
i’m not up to date on general console discourse. but i know for a fact Nintendo, though never famous for being cheap, has been going mental lately. $80 for Mario Kart is mind boggling
beat saber is absolutely amazing, i wish my VR didn’t break. i can stick to normal exercise for maybe a week, beat saber filled my brain with so much dopamine each time i played it regularly for months, Rum & Bass in 360 mode my beloved
and if at any point you had to disconnect your fans for cleaning do not forget to connect them back in. the fans are not optional components. modern PCs and laptops will straight up refuse to turn on if they can’t detect the fans
it may not matter at all, but we’re here, somehow, made of sentient flesh, kept on a giant rock hurling through space, spinning around an enormous buring ball of fire. it’s all bizarre and none of us knows what is going on, so why not take some time out of the lives we live as statistical abnormalities, and just ponder on the whys and hows and whats of the things around us, and our own minds
there’s always the possibility the one queer person just pretended not to see and let it happen because it’s funny. but the way to prevent this is to hire at least two queer people, then once you see them giggling to each other after the meeting you’ll know something is up
us Europeans are queer too sometimes (and the lingo is international)
that’s why i keep two books in the bathroom. True Facts That Sound Like Bullshit by Shane Carley, and Brief Answers to Big Questions by Stephen Hawking. Perfect for reading ~10-20min at a time
