Interesting to see a clear problem at scale and have folks tell you it must just be individual failures
Ya it’s definitely the fault of those lazy low-information Latinos who simply refuse to subscribe to the Economist and read it after their second eight-hour shift
Also “why don’t the poor just inherit more coal?“
I was just reading an article saying it’s terrible we’re deporting a ton of kids who never speak to a lawyer. Then it said the proportion had gone up, and cited the old pre-fascism figure. The smaller number was also appalling!
So, clearly sickening all around.
Anybody know what the proper path forward would be? Say the proper interim path. If giving the best representation to all kids means thankfully more get to stay, might it change the calculus of parents put in impossible situations and lead them to strategically abandon their children here hoping they’ll get a better life? And maybe it’s an entirely rational decision at least at first—but eventually even more kids might slip through the cracks. And as costs for anything balloon, negative attention does too. Negative attention sucks oxygen even when you’re willing to fight.
And public defendants already have like negative time to spend with their clients, we desperately need more.
Fucking sucks
