iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•End of 10 - Windows ten is ending. Microsoft wants you to buy a new computer. But what if you could make your current one fast and secure again?English2320·3 days agoTried to install Mint on my laptop, wouldn’t work. Googled the issue, had to rename a file in the boot directory for some reason.
Tried again, wouldn’t work. Googled issue, had to turn off secure boot in bios.
Tried again, installed, okay now we’re cooking. Connected to WiFi, updated packages and drivers. All good, reboot. Install Steam. Login via QR code, it begins loading user data.
Loading… Loading… Loading… Okay it’s clearly stuck. How do I kill a process on Linux? Google it, okay that’s not too hard. Try launching Steam again, same thing. Google this issue, get a lot of different potential causes, involving delving into some obscure directories.
I consider myself technologically competent, more so than the average person/consumer. I am a lot of people in my social sphere’s “computer guy”. Way more than most people are not going to figure this stuff out for themselves.
I’m really sorry to say but Linux is still not ready for mainstream consumers and users if this is the experience of the most recommended stable distro for the average person.

You have first hand knowledge of what happened there to make it ironic. Judging by other comments, it seems like (at least for now) the photo alone, without context, isn’t very ironic. It really is your context that makes it ironic. You should add the context to the original post!

The only data actually on my PC are program files.
It’s certainly context that helps paint it as ironic, yes! These are all details that are definitely lost by just posting a photo on the internet and calling it ironic.
How can you possibly know who was driving the car? Furthermore, even if the red van wasn’t being driven by a learner, how can you know the events that led to this weren’t caused by a different car driven by a learner?
That’s not ironic. That’s not ironic at all. Of all the places I’d expect a collision to occur, I’d be least surprised to find out one occurred near a driving instructor. The people needing a driving instructor generally aren’t good at driving.
Edited to add: OP has added context to the situation here, https://sh.itjust.works/comment/18347533
As a dork myself, I’m deeply offended to be associated with Tesla owners.

I’m sorry that it came off as condescending. Truly, that was not the intent. Tone is difficult over text, but I was more going for an incredulous sarcasm that beckoned critical thinking.
No, stopping all USPS deliveries is not an option. They can usually hold mail for up to 30 days if you apply for it, but I think this even varies by local office.
You can, however, refuse some mail. This is a manual process. You can also apply to be removed from mailing lists, which is almost certainly what the other poster did.
ETA: instead of, or at least in addition to downvoting me could you comment to correct me?
For putting some crap in a box, taping on a flyer, and then lying on the internet?
You don’t actually think this happened, do you? Why would the post office ship a heavy package for free just because a no postage needed flyer is stuck to it?

FYI, M.2 describes a form factor, and SATA is not. You can have a 2.5" SATA drive and an M.2 SATA drive, for example.
Though yes, M.2 SATA drives are generally faster.
