Systems in between are subject to manipulation via their vast wealth. The only way to diminish that is dissolution of superPACs and heavy regulation of all systems that allow cash to flow into politics.

It’s a big system, with enough moving parts that I understand the ad/pay model existing. I just wish they weren’t such prices about how they choose to operate it sometimes.

I think the value of a gift that is automatically seized is ludicrously low. I recall nintendo gifting a switch and it was made property of the American People, which usually means it goes to the Smithsonian.

Sarmyth@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•i truly believe that there's an open war between Humanity vs. Advertisers and their allies.1·29 days agoI agree. Everything being advertised on YouTube is sketch. Same with all the repeated podcast adverts honestly.
The fact that youtube hits me with an ad for a game that says everyone thinks its fake, with the most bullshit sounding voice over, tells me they are happy to take money for obvious scam products.
Sarmyth@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Elon Musk is responsible for “killing the world’s poorest children,” says Bill Gates11·29 days agoI feel like the only way it would work is if they got to keep the money of whoever they killed as long as that person had over a billion dollars… and I would almost be OK with that.
I like to imagine it would reduce the collateral damage the rest of society faces when these people have a dick waving contest.
Roided out billionaires with their hearts exploding out their chests from experimental steroids would really mix things up in a good way. He’ll maybe we’d get some truly sick cybernetic out of it too.

Sarmyth@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Report: Apple CEO “cares about nothing else” Than Building Breakout AR Glasses Before MetaEnglish29·1 month agoI think the fundamental problem with the AR glasses is something that can’t be overcome.
I think its easy to see the utility to owning a pair of glasses that look good and provide real time information as desired for what you are looking at or hearing.
HOWEVER, I think very few people will want the product these co.panies will make. This will be a method to throw ads literally in front of your eyeballs. Enshitification is too big of a thing now and so any new product is tainted by the expectation it will rapidly turn to garbage at a high price to you.
Also, while we may think we can be trusted, we dont trust anyone else having all that info, I dont like the obvious privacy implications that these can present. Filming with them is also terrifying.
It’s a nasty can of worms that never should have been opened.
