I for one am ditching Windows and Office which I’ve been using professionally since Windows 3.0. It’s the year of the Linux for me. As per data in US clouds (even hosted in EU), it was never safe.

I don’t think so. Ref counting is a counter associated with the object which counts references to it and when it becomes null 0, object is destroyed. Hence ref counting. While GC does graph traversal to find which objects can be reached and marks unreachable ones as candidates for destroying.
It’s not trivial as it seems. See https://github.com/dotnet/runtime/issues/37667 and enhancement that happened only in .NET 8.
Record profits help
I don’t think that’s even possible - to have that much control over GC engine that is.
TBH I almost don’t play games and I’m genuinely curious whether GC pauses are noticeable. And not only Rust, there is Swift as well.
Um, no, C# most definitely uses GC, not ref counting, and you can’t not use it.
So, pay more it is.
Welcome GC pauses :) I wonder how do those manifests in real life.
Cannabis doesn’t fit here, since it’s not s hard drug and has also beneficial effects when taken correctly.
Lol, yes, also destroying industry and makes everything pricier to lower sales.
No, no. Finally build that new roadster and trucks! :)
So much this ^^^. If Ukraine is blackmailed to give land away, then we are all screwed because even this leftover of international law crumbles. The Orange doesn’t care at all, all he sees are possible deals with Putin and profits by Ukraine extortion.
That’s certainly a fair point. However, being 100% dependent on an external monopoly is strategically and mid-term problematic. Once they acquire a monopoly status, they can raise prices, stop innovating and have a leverage on you - classic monopoly cons.
But it is really a wise decision not taking countermeasures and sweet-talking to a bully once he slaps you? What do you think this attitude signals to the said bully?
That’s true, they are subsidizing your country. The problem at hand is that they are also destroying your industry, which is very bad in long term. When others industry is gone , they have a monopoly. The same supplies applies to car industry, specifically EVs.
AFAIK not. They “wanted” to, but then paused them all together, while orange retained initial ones. 🤷♂️
For starters implement reciprocal tariffs. Which we only virtually did only to pause them to not anger the orange. Next, don’t visit the orange nor start talking with him. It’s like China says, he should start conversation.
I wish EU was capable of similar attitude as China instead of digging our hole by trying to appease the Orange liar in chief no matter what.
It depends on your use case I’d say. I’m replacing outlook with possibly Thunderbird or just web interface when it comes to exchange. I don’t use word, instead markdown for simple documents or typst for more complex ones. Instead of PowerPoint I’ll use JavaScript/html based presentation engines and instead of excel, I don’t know yet, perhaps LibreOffice equivalent. But then again, I’m more a developer than content creator.
TL;DR when it comes to word like documents, check out typst. It requires a shift, but you might like it.
