Funny enough, that might actually make the intersection MORE safe because everyone going through it will be uncomfortable and extra vigilant.

Godnroc@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Need a second opinion on a project idea (Pi5 car headunit)English15·4 days agoI love the idea and it’s something I thought about doing too, so I’m super interested in this thread.
For me, I thought it would be interesting to remove the existing stereo and mount everything it the double-DIN hole left behind. That would give you access to power, ignition, and speaker wires easily. You would need to do some rewiring between cars, but it would be the most practical spot.
From working on some fleet vehicles before, I’ve seen interesting systems where all of the accessories were on their own battery that only charged when the car was running or off an external charging cord that could be connected if it was going to sit for a while.
The benefit of a separate power system was that the equipment didn’t need to boot up every time you started the car. Maybe the display and anything else could be powered only when running, but if the main computer was always powered that would save time. It could also get a signal from a battery maintainer that the accessory battery is low and perform a graceful shutdown.

Then I was driving and tried to play a specific song, but the Assistant couldn’t get further than dumping me into YouTube Music and hiding my navigation.
So anyways, I just uninstalled Assistant and after failing to find something else I came to Lemmy and saw this.
Godnroc@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Would racism in the USA still exist if humans had automated robots in the 1800s?English11·15 days agoWell, racism is not, unfortunately, either a recent invention or an exclusive ideology either. As an example, the stereotype of a drunk Irishman is a racist stereotype that was also common in America’s history. If you can define a group of people, chances are there is a stereotype about them.
The one that sticks in my head is “gypped” for getting screwed over is based on gypsies and is the equivalent of saying “jewed” for some other people. Either one is a racist stereotype, but I didn’t realize the first wasn’t just a common term until it was pointed out to me.

Well, except for the few things which are legally protected such as your race in which case they have to make up a different reason to write down first before kicking your ass to the curb.

Maybe it’s the 250+ audiobooks I have influencing me, but the very best ones I’ve listened to transcend just turning words into sound. Sound effects, music, tone, emotion, accents, sarcasm, and god damn BLOOPERS all improve the experience beyond just hearing what is written down.
I’m against it, fuck that literal noise.

I’m only slightly salty that I only get 6 options in my size and width.

In all seriousness, I have very wide feet and also cannot purchase shoes in store, but I found a manufacturer that sells extra, extra wide shoes and I just buy directly from them.

Oh man, if only there was a commercially available grate solution for this exact type of location.
I’d wager that they next time they do maintenance to the road or sidewalk that spot gets fixed. So 10-30 years out, probably.
