Do Buses still work? (since card payments wouldn't work)7·4 days agoIn wet areas or areas during a snow melt, sump pumps are a big factor. Many people have emergency generators or battery back up pumps if their sump pit has a lot of flow.
Also rural people will often lose power to their water pumps and disinfection equipment for drinking water.

No one should be forced to be with someone they fear because of finances, childcare, safety, or loneliness.
Not all shitty partners induce fear. I’ve known some girls who are just head over heels due to how attractive, wealthy, or mostly sweet a guy is. The good times outshine the bad times and they get into the “i can fix him” mentality. My brother is like that where he has gotten away with cheating with nearly every partner he has had. It usually takes the girl months to finally leave him and say its been enough. Hes the chad gym type and genuinely doesn’t have to try to pull women. Any time they threaten to leave he gets all sweet, shows up with gifts and acts romantic and sexy just to get caught cheating again next week.
We need to be hard on ourselves sometimes and push manipulative people out of our lives. I think an erosion of IRL friendships has influenced this trend as well. I used to know girls who would band together to help a girl get rid of a shitty guy they were infatuated with but that is much harder to do online than in person.

Many of them keep acting like this cause they get away with it after some small talk and a nice dinner just to be a piece of shit again next week. I’ve known girls who date men who genuinely claim that women shouldn’t be allowed to vote and all i can think is “why is this girl staying with someone who hates them?”

Any resistance is downvoted, dogpiled with hateful comments, and maybe even removed by a biased mod. A lot of the good men who would defend in those comments don’t even browse those specific forums because of how toxic and shitty they can be.

Maybe it’ll save you time later for a nap or an earlier bed time. I find if i wake and feel decently rested even if its not wake up time i prefer to just start my day there than interupt another sleep cycle.

Very.English3·12 days agoI may be wrong but isnt the city planning to use a lot of the money made from congestion pricing to improve public transit? So sure some rich dude can afford to pay to drive in less congestion, but those fees would directly go to supporting transit that thousands of people rely on daily and may be getting more use since congestion pricing began.

New developments are almost exclusively either residential SFH or commercial strip malls. Prevously a building was flexible enough to go from a grocer with apartments above it then to a financial office then to full residential with relatively minor renovations in between. Now walmart has rules saying another big box store cant buy their abandoned big box store to prevent competition.

The biggest problem is density. Low density makes it very difficult to effeciently service, yet many north american zoning and building codes make it very difficult to build any housing that isn’t detached single family homes with minimum parking standards and set backs.
FireRetardant@lemmy.worldto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Explaining green transportation policy to normiesEnglish0·3 months agoThe problem with transit is more about how cities are designed, zoned, and built. If we built cities for people instead of cars the vast majority of people in a city would likely have faster commutes on transit than driving a private vehicle.
Other things can help with this as well such as transit signal priority.
In some senses i would go back. Then i could just keep using 1 wire. Things were great when everything had the same cable for me. Now ive got a mix of micro and C.
I do a lot backpacking and every gram really counts when you carry it all day.
Most of my flashlights and rechargeable decives are micro USB still. C is superior but I’m not throwing away good electronics over a charging cable.
A similar rule applies to not parking too closely to stop signs in my area. There aren’t any extra signs or painted curbs, drivers are just expected to ask themselves, is this too close to that stop sign? I don’t see how crosswalks are any different. If you give yourself 2 car lengths from the crosswalk you should be good for most cars.
