The main reason for this is to avoid any digital paper trail. The whole thing is to do one thing: not leave anything that can be subpoenaed or have a FOIA filing against.

He is hiding what he is doing just like the rest of the trump regime.

Somewhat of a click-bait headline and article.

By itself, Signal is one of the most secure communications software, it is encrypted point to point with a different cypher per message and the cyphers are already prepared to withstand quantum processing.

The issue is not Signal, is the fact this moron was circumventing security measures as member of the government.

Well, the issue isn’t Signal being bad, it’s a government official who violates FOIA requirements because apparently what he says is too damning to be scrutinized.

Plus, Signal may be secure, but is the rest of his phone? What about the phones of the people he sends top secret battle plans to?

What else is this dumb ass running? Tik Tok? Temu?

Random journalists are the least of his worries. Hostile governments have got his communications before his phone has even had a chance to beep.

This is to bypass freedom of information laws and the record keeping it requires. This is straight up breaking the law.

Ok, it may be breaking a law or two but, BUT, can any of you name a better way to get top secret and sensitive info to Russia in a quicker and easier way? Hmm, can you?

    That doesn’t make any sense

The purpose of using client side encryption is to make it so you dont have to trust the internet connection itself.

The Whitehouse has an unsecured Starlink connection on its roof. Why would Hegseths Signal surprise anyone.

I wonder if it’s even plugged in. I mean it’s just an Elon grift, who says he’s even proving a service for his kickbacks?

Might be good for the next person in that role, since it would not be at all surprising to see him chucked soon.

I wonder if his recent on-camera mania is booze fueled, panic as his life crumbles around him, or both.
