Apparently they exist
The Picard Maneuver@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Slurs, 911 calls and a crossbow: Records detail neighborhood disputes before Jonathan Joss' killing282·8 days agoYeah, reading the article paints a more complex story than I had been reading on here since his death. The police had come out to their house “four dozen times” before, barbequing in the living room on the day of the house fire, allegedly showing up at his neighbor’s house with a crossbow before the police removed it from the home.
It’s a tragic situation, regardless of whatever details ultimately come out, but I think it’s probably best to let the investigation and courts sort out this mess.

It’s a strange quirk of lemmy that we will continue to be able to see content from lemm.ee even after they’ve shut down. It’ll feel like seeing ghosts.

The Picard Maneuver@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•WTF is a rural town in the USA?14·17 days agoThey’re still cities, but people tend to start calling them “rural” when you get a certain distance from the big cities and things spread out, often also near farmland and/or nature.
For example, this would probably count as rural.
Yeah, it is more than average. The average number of lifetime sexual (I didn’t see data for just “dating”) partners for an individual is in the single digits, around 4-7.
I just googled it, and surprisingly the number actually is 12.

The Picard Maneuver@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When will you "quit" the internet?4·22 days agoI don’t imagine quitting the internet, but I can picture the internet fracturing into smaller sites with resistance to AI through obscurity - sort of similar to how we DO get occasional spam bots on Lemmy, but it largely isn’t worth bad actors’ time to target this platform.
Either that, or larger platforms with some sort of verification process, but that seems like a losing battle in the long run.
Sometimes I find some memes I haven’t seen at a garage sale, brush the dust off, and they’re good as new!
Sometimes I forget how long it’s been!
